Cable and Connector Help

How to clean a Fischer connector

  1. Add a few drips of vinegar to each side of the connector (MALE AND FEMALE)
    2. gently push the 2 connector together (they do not need to lock together )
    3. leave together for no longer then 10 minutes.
    4. rinse with fresh water and blow dry.
    5. add a drip or 2 of mineral oil to each connector to protect the pin

This solves many of the connection troubls with fischers
you can find the oil here if you need it https://www.narkedat90.com/fischer-connector-oil.html

Shearwater connections (3 cell)

Below is a close up view of the pins inside the connector, take note of the crescent shape in the connector is is to locate the connector in the correct orientation and helps you with pin identification.

Below is the cable cores after the outer shielding is stripped off an old style beldon cable.

there are 4 cores all of which are used

WHITE (PIN 3) CELL 2
BLUE/WHITE (PIN 4) CELL 3
BLUE (PIN 1) GROUND

Below is an R22  molex o2 cell, note the orientation of the positive and negative cell pins

Below is the newer R22D-AP cell fitted with the SMB connector.

This cell is used in APD's vision and evolution rebreathers as well as our DEEP PURSUIT™ and has a much superior connector.

The center of the connector is POSITIVE and the out part is NEGATIVE

VR3 connections (1 cell)

WARNING - VR3 CABLES REQUIRE A DISCRETE COMPONENT IN THE CONNECTOR TO WORK CORRECTLY. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO MAKE YOUR OWN VR3 CABLE UNLESS YOU FIT THIS COMPONENT.

Below is a close up view of the pins inside the connector. Take note of the crescent shape in the connector which is to locate the connector in the correct orientation and helps you with pin identification.

Below is the cable cores after the outer shielding is stripped off. There are 4 cores BUT ONLY 2 ARE USED FOR THE VR3

THIS IS FOR THE BELDON CABLE ONLY

WHITE that is connected to pin# 3 in the connector and is POSITIVE
BLUE that is connected to pin# 1 in the connector and is NEGATIVE
WHITE/blue this conductor is not used for the VR3
BLUE/white this conductor is not used for the VR3

We now use a very tough water stopped cable. It has 9 cores but we only use 4 cores for cable assemblys.

The cores we use are

Common: BLACK
Cell 1: RED
Cell2: BROWN
Cell3: PURPLE
The other cores are not used
